Stir Fried Noodles with Steak and Mushrooms

I love a one pot meal! This is a yummy dish filled with noodles, steak and mushrooms. It is flavored with one of my favorite Chinese spices- Szechuan peppercorns!!

  • 10 ounces Chinese noodles, cooked according to directions, keep aside
  • 1 rib eye steak, sliced thin
  • 1 teaspoon Szechuan peppercorns
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Roast the peppercorns and cumin seeds in a pan for 2 to 3 minutes. Let them cool and grind till a powder is formed. Marinate the steak slices with the spice mixture and salt for 2 to 3 hours.

  • 3 tablespoons peanut oil
  • 10 ounces Cremini mushrooms, sliced
  • 4 ounces Shiitaki mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 large yellow onion, sliced
  • 3 garlic cloves, grated
  • 2 tablespoons Shaoxing wine
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 2 tablespoons dark soy sauce
  • ½ cup cilantro, chopped

Heat a wok like saucepan with the oil. Brown the steak on high heat for 2 to 3 minutes. Take out of the pan and add the mushrooms and sauté on high heat for 4 to 5 minutes. Add the onion and garlic. Saute for a minute and add the cooked noodles, steak slices and the sauces. Mix well and check for seasonings. Garnish with cilantro.

Grilled Steak with Tomato Salad

This is a great recipe for the season- tomatoes are everywhere and grilling is the thing to do. It takes no time to whip this up…

  • 2 to 3 grass fed rib eye steaks
  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
  • Salt
  • Pepper

Drizzle the olive oil all over the steak and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Marinate for an hour or two. Grill the steaks to desired doneness. Let rest for 15 minutes before slicing.

Tomato Salad

  • 2 to 3 heirloom tomatoes, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • Drizzle of balsamic glaze
  • Salt
  • Pepper

Transfer the tomatoes to a medium bowl. Add the oil, salt and pepper. Mix well and let marinate for an hour. Right before serving with the steaks, drizzle some balsamic glaze.

Spicy Chimichurri Sauce

chimichurri1 Delicious is what I think of when I look at this vibrant sauce. It is full of flavor and best of all- goes with all sorts of meats and even vegetables.

It is my version of a chimichurri sauce which is popular in Argentina, Uruguay, Nicaragua and Mexico. It is mostly used as a sauce for grilled meat and even as a marinade.

Good friends were coming over for dinner and I wanted to barbecue but keep it simple. I had a huge piece of a boneless rib eye steak and I also bought my husband’s favorite fish- alaskan butterfish or also known as black cod. Thankfully our local fish monger (Freemans) now carries the fish regularly.

I bought some corn to grill and potatoes to roast in the oven- and thats it. I grilled the meat and the fish and served it with this delicious sauce. It complimented the steak as well as the creamy fish.

The sauce is simply made with cilantro, parsley, lemon juice, orange juice, garlic and my secret ingredient- ancho chili powder. I love using that spice in sauces and marinades- it  gives everything a delicious smoky flavor.

Try this spicy chimichurri sauce- you will want to eat it everything in the fridge…

Rib Eye Steak with Feta Sauce Served with Roasted Asparagus and Potatoes

Ribeye Steak with Feta6 This is a delicious steak dinner. We don’t eat out as much as we used to. Partly because of the economy and mostly because of this blog and all the cooking I end up doing at home.

Also after watching movies like ‘Food Inc‘, I am very leery about eating out. I can’t get the chickens and the cows out of my head. I am now very careful about where I buy and eat beef.

Anyway, I found some really nice looking grass fed rib eye steaks. I love eating a good steak but rarely order it at a restaurant- I don’t want to spend a fortune outside when I can make them at home- and they are fabulous.

I usually make oven fries with the steak- I love potatoes and this is my favorite way of making them. I had very nice looking asparagus- I served them simply sauteed with olive oil, salt and pepper.

Now, for the steaks- again, very simple- olive oil, salt and pepper but I wanted to serve them with a sauce. I love the usual gorgonzola sauce which is made with lots of yummy gorgonzola and cream. It is very delicious but loaded with calories. I had feta in my fridge and decided to use that and make a sauce. It is naturally low in fat so I paired it with some roasted garlic and low fat sour cream. The sauce was delicious! We did not miss the gorgonzola sauce at all!

My daughter loved the meal as well minus the potatoes and the sauce. She loves asparagus and steak. We were all happy and it was a great Sunday meal.

Next time you want to impress someone- make the rib eye steaks with the feta sauce.
