Grasse, Cannes & Nice

Spread the love

So todays highlight were a couple of desserts I had.. thats it really.. the food was okay, nothing special. The wine was yummy- a couple of glasses of rose.. but other than that I guess the places we saw…

The day started off with a yummy breakfast of a small baguette, butter, jam, a sausage, a bit of bacon, some fruit and a bit of yogurt. I had some yummy espressos as well! We walked to the train station and bought tickets to go to Grasse and Cannes- about an hour away from Nice. Grasse is known for its perfumery- Fragonard. It was a sleepy, hillside town where signs were hard to find and so it took us a good half hour and a lot of climbing up hill before we found the center. In the meantime, I had found a fabulous, tiny restaurant to eat lunch. Once we made our way there, we realized it was full! Well, considering it had about 20 people in there, I guess we weren’t surprised. We were disappointed, and moved on and found a nice looking eatery where we ate Croque Monsieur and a yummy plate of rice topped with a melange of seafood cooked in saffron. I sipped a yummy Rose with it. The croque monsieur was okay, nothing special.

The tomatoes that came with it were yummy! The rice dish was much better. The meal ended really well as their panna cotta was out of this world. I topped it with the raspberry coulis and enjoyed the smooth, rich and delicious vanilla flavor. We moved on to the perfumery museum and headed back to the train to go to Cannes.

What a stark difference between Grasse and Cannes- there was nothing sleepy about Cannes! It was bustling with people walking with their dogs wearing fancy clothes and holding fancy bags. We walked on the promenade de la croisette, which is their main walk way/area filled with fancy hotels and shops overlooking the beautiful water….

We walked around, ate ice cream and stopped in for a quick glass of kir royale and decided to head back to Nice for a swim in the pool and a late dinner. By the time we came out for dinner, it was late and it was a Monday, which meant a lot of restaurants I found online were closed… so we decided to not be picky and find a place. It was okay- I had a beef stew cooked in red wine, which was actually quite tasty..

Afterwards, we decided to go for a walk and find a very highly rated ice cream place called Fenocchio..They had an amazing variety of flavors- like mojito, tomato and basil.. I went for the basic, well kind of- a scoop of caramel and a scoop of walnut topped with a dollop of whipped cream. The ice cream was absolutely delicious!! It was super flavorful and yummy! It ended the night really well.
